Committing to the Plan

"Reflection" Fifth WheelAfter months of research and a little stress, I ordered a new 31 foot, “Reflections” fifth wheel last week in preparation for my adventure.  My plan is to take delivery of the fifth wheel in Las Vegas, Nevada, late February.  From there start my trip back to my home base in Montana, arriving there in late Spring.

Now the search for my truck begins, kind of… been looking several months.  I have it narrowed down to a 4×4 Ram 2500 Crew Cab Diesel.

  1. Hey Gary,
I remember when you bought your first suburban, the white one and it was 30′ long. Your 5th wheel is close to that size…seems amazing that 31′ can hold your entire life.

    • That seems like a lifetime ago, oh I guess it was. I remember venturing to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in it, four wheeling though what seemed like a river. I know my kids have fond memories of it. I am really looking forward to my new adventure.

    • Actually I am currently based in Southern California, shortly moving to Montana which I will call my home as I travel. That is a good site, informative I have them on my list. I am very interested in doing some boondocking but the first year I am staying on the west coast. Primarily Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, and back to Southern California at some point.

  2. You have made a great decision Garry! I know you will love it as much as we do! Read as many RV blogs as you can! You will learn so much from those folks that are actually doing it! Al and Kelly at The Bayfield Bunch,
http://thebayfieldbunch.com/ and RVSue, rvsueandcrew.net are 2 of my favorites. Today Al mentioned more than several links of solo RV bloggers, that would be a great place to start! Have you ever considered workamping? Chuck and I did that several years while exploring the beauty of Utah! Love the Zion area! Enjoy your new life! We know you will!

    • Thanks for posting Geri, It’s nice to have confirmation from others as I go down this new path (for me). The past few months I have been reading anything I can get my hands on, good advice. I hope after I start traveling that I can be as half as good with my blog as others, including the ones you mentioned. For me it’s not only been educational, but very entertaining, like a good book. I may do some workamping later, I do have a number of skills with computers and programming. But for now I am just enjoying life and preparing for the day when my fifth wheel is delivered.

  3. Thanks for stopping by Karen.
It is a very exciting time for me, I wasn’t sure what I would do with all my time retired until I started this adventure. I will have fun if it’s half of what I dream and read on blogs. There is a lot of preparation in the days to come, but that is fun too!
